a mini-health journal! December 29, 2007

Filed under: bloggy stuff, endometriosis, food food food, food logs, health, nutrition, weight loss, yoga — sillygolucky @ 2:24 pm

happy saturday morning :D

to help me stay on track on my journey to better health, i decided to create a little mini-health journal within my website :)   it’s the second link from the top called “my 2008 health journal.”  you can find the archives for it at the very bottom of the navigation bar!

i’ll still be talking about health, nutrition, weight loss, endometriosis and FOOD (of course! hehe) in sillygolucky :)   so dont think you’re off the hook. BWAAHAHA! >;-D

the health journal is for more of a daily basis check-in place for me.  i’ll post what i eat, my weigh-ins, how im feeling physically (probably TMI for some of you, but oh well! its a good way for me to track the association of certain foods to my pain levels!), and talk more specifically about my diet and my endo treatment.

if any of you are curious about anything i mention, have questions about certain foods i eat or just general health/nutrition questions/comments, PLEASE indulge me ;)   i love learning more about these things and helping others do the same!

and i would be overjoyed to help you reach some of your own personal health goals along the way =D

~josey~ :)

Filed under: awards — sillygolucky @ 10:48 pm

hey ya’ll :)

i am so very flattered and honored by the awards you’ve all passed my way lately. i appreciate that you’ve chosen ones you feel i deserve (instead of just wildly flinging them about! LOL!).

i dont wanna sound cheesey, but gol’durnit, it makes me feel special and i want you to know it means a lot to me :D

if you havent noticed, i have a new link in the first chunk of my navigation bar called, “awards from you!“  i’ve displayed all the thoughtful awards and badges you’ve been giving me :D    this is my way of thanking you, and providing links back to your wonderful blogs!!

today i’m adding to it!! :D

iamalittlenuttyaward.jpgmy good ole buddy amy from you are a fly—and you’re sitting on my wall gave me this AWESOME award!  i have to say, i coveted it when i saw it on someone else’s blog a few weeks back. LOL!  well cause first, i would have to agree that i’m totally nutty… *makes goofy face* LOL.  and second, I LOVE SQUIRRELS! HAHAH!!  and third…i eat lots of walnuts, almonds, pecans…you name it. ;)   (and no, i didnt dig them out of the ground or out of a tree trunk. LOL!)  thanks heaps, amy!

i would like these “nutter budders” to accept this award!

nicemattersaward.jpgtish of the kat house, once again passed me over some love!  she gave me the “nice matters” award, created by genevieve of bella enchanted.  we should pass it on to “those that are just nice people, good blog friends, and those that inspire good feelings and inspiration! those that care about others, that are there to lend support, or those that are just a positive influence in our blogging world!” i superdooper appreciate this, tish!

and i’d like to recognize these awfully nice folks in return (sorry guys, i know this one’s a bit girly looking! teehee!):

and finally, i received the “never, never, never give up” award from gail at live holistically!  gail created this award just for me, too!!! :D :D  she said, “the award stands for stamina, being able to pick yourself up and keep on going despite all the obstacles we are faced with in this world!”   gail, you dont know how much that means to me.  you inspire me…especially with simple posts like this!!!  thank you!

gail asked me to design the actual badge…so, here’s what i feel it embodies:

nevernevernevergiveupaward.jpg

you may recognize this as a shot from the movie Hidalgo.  i have a bit of a soft spot for stories and movies about horses, and this one is all about strength, endurance, stamina, taking risks and passion.  (and if you’re curious—or just bored…LOL—you can read about the TRUE story here.)

so in honor of this extremly thoughtful award given to me by gail, i’d like to sincerely pass it on to the following fellow bloggers.  through their blogs each of these folks display their courage, strength, innermost struggles and most importantly, they never, never, never give up.  you all deserve this one very much!

thanks again for these lovely awards and congrats to all those who are now receiving them!! =D

reality tv and weight loss December 27, 2007

Filed under: brain clutter, health, weight loss — sillygolucky @ 8:58 pm

hey there! =D

last week i watched the (tivo’d) finale of the biggest loser.  this was my first season watching; im not much of a tv gal, really.  i just have a few reality shows i watch, scattered throughout the year as they come on (survivor, the amazing race, american idol, so ya think you can dance, hell’s kitchen, and america’s next top model).

anyhoo!  sorry bout the mini-tangent. haha.

let’s put aside the fact this show was edited for tv and all that jazz.  there’s something that attracts me to TBL in particular—people’s lives are actually changed FOR THE BETTER by participating in the crazy realm of reality tv!

it was totally amazing to see how nearly all of the contestants—especially the top 4—changed so drastically!  a few of them even lost 50% of their original body weight!!  can you imagine?!  HALF of yourself—gone!

i think what inspired me and impressed on my heart the most was their determination and perseverance.  yes—they wanted to win; but more than anything, they wanted to improve their lives and prove to themselves they could do this, and that they WERE WORTH IT.

emotionally and physically, i understand what many of these people went through.   there wasnt an episode i didnt cry once or more because i felt so sorry for someone, or identified so closely. maybe im a cheesey chump for getting so sentimental about a dumb tv show that a network uses just to make money.  so, call me a sappybutt!  i dont care! LOL.

i think i also cried because sometimes i felt sorry for myself/guilty for not working harder toward my goals.  i saw them succeed under pretty extreme circumstances and i was so proud!  i KNOW how hard it is to fight past the mental and physical burdens of why you’re fat—anyone who’s ever been overweight knows what i mean.

now if you’re sitting there reading this and STILL thinking im a total idiot for being suckered into this show emotionally, then maybe you’re missing my point!

for those of us who struggle with our weight and all the baggage that comes with it, its a light in the darkness to see others come so far.

we celebrate with them and cheer them on!  it boosts our own morale.  it renews our hope when we are mentally exhausted.

we identify with the human condition and begin to realize we have the same strength and motivation as these people, who come from the same walks of life.  it’s easy to forget we have reserves we haven’t yet tapped into.

no, i dont worship reality tv ;)   but watching this season of TBL gave me a boost of optimism for my own situation.  it’s been tough (understatement!) losing weight this year with my endometriosis and the pain and hormonal fluctuations its brought with it.  but i’m getting better, slowly.

i just cant give up!

i want to prove to myself i can do this.

this whole “health” goal of mine is so much more than losing weight.  it’s shedding layers and layers of emotional cruddy build-up.  feeding my self-esteem.  giving worth to my character, my core—pushing myself to persevere and emerge as stronger and more confident.  i want to use these positive things to help other people.

but first, i have to tend to my own wounds and issues.  2007 started that and now im onna roll :D

i am VERYVERY excitedly looking forward to 2008 as being the year i blossom into a more balanced, kind and healthy person.  and not just in how i react and give back to the world around me, but how i treat and care for my own mind, body and spirit.

(more on all this soon! weeeeeeeee!)

it’s what’s on the inside that counts! December 18, 2007

Filed under: memes — sillygolucky @ 3:19 pm

because i’ve gotta big mouth, ivy tagged me with this meme.  *teehee* (see the story somewhere in here…originally, she HADN’T tagged me. GAH! LOL!)

anyhoo, she LOVES her designer purses, as do many of the women whose blogs i read…which is somewhat peculiar, because i think the most expensive purse i’ve bought was like…$25. LOL!  and that was in high school. hehe!!  oh well, women can have more important things in common than the love of purses, right?

RIGHT?? *blinx*  hehe!

see, im not much of a girly-girl.  i mean hey, i like to spiffy on up and look “pretty” on occasion.  but i grew up climbing trees, riding bikes off homemade ramps with my neighbor boys, and playing in the mud holes in my grandparent’s sidewalk that was missing bricks.

so, purses are kinda annoying to me.  they’re like the little sibling you dont want hanging on you.  and i prefer my purses small—just big enough to hold the very few things i need when i leave the house.

but shocker, yes, i DO own one! hehe!  here’s the currently employed:

pursememe.jpg

so, here you see a hand-me-down Old Navy model.  it’s fleecy and very wintery-stylish. ;)   my good friend Rachel so generously gave it to me as i was helping her pack up and move a few months ago.  seems like we stumbled upon it in a box or an unused suitcase or something.  yay me!!  “expensive” purse for free =)  it’s a little bigger than i’d normally have, but hey, it works :)

to the right, you’ll see my handy-dandy memo pad.  it’s a life-saver when you’re wandering around the county roads in your car, and you spot a “for sale by owner” sign and need to jot down the phone number. hehe!  (yep, hubby and i have been looking around at houses to buy for the last year.)  oh, i DO have a pen (not pictured).  its a REALLY nice heavy fancy-looking one…a freebee from the bank. HA!!!  i left it in the car and my hubby had the car when i took this pix!

next is my wallet.  many times when i go in the store, i just grab this and stuff it in my coat pocket.  i dont particularly like carrying anything else with me in stores—not even my cell phone.  oh btw, this wallet was from a leather purse i bought on clearance.  i ended up hating the purse! LOL!  but the wallet worked great for my credit card, cash and driver’s license =)  so i kept it.  who cares if it doesnt match? (well, actually it bothers me somewhat.  but im just too cheap to buy an expensive one!)

*GASP*  yes, the next item…IS…a checkbook!!!  yes, they still exist.  we rarely write checks tho, but i keep it in my purse because the times we usually need it, we’re out of the house.

back to the left, under my purse is a wool zippered bag i bought at our local pet supply and gift shop.  i use it for change mostly.  i’m not sure why i really bought it—i just liked it.  it cost more than what i usually pay for most of my purses, too. LOL!!!

next you’ll see my lame-o cell phone.  i just got it a few months ago.  i switched over to a pay-as-you-go deal, and there were only 2 to choose from.  i chose this one instead of the flip phone because it has a camera.  i hate it, tho!  it always dials and wastes my money.  and i cant figure out how to lock the dumb keys!  i dug out the book over the weekend, so i’ll figure it out!

then you see some misc stuff…nail clippers (i DONT prefer to bite mine! plus they come in handy cutting small things when you’re in a pinch), Burt’s Bees lip balm, travel dental floss (freebee from the dentist…i hate stuff stuck between my teeth, so this is nice when we’re traveling. yeah, im weerd that way!), chamomilla/belladonna pellets (a homeopathic remedy for upset stomach or girlie cramps), and two little barrettes for those times when i just get sick of my bangs in my face.

then of course—my keys.  one for the car, one for the truck and remotes for each of them.  i dont have house keys on it because i always come in thru the garage.  then of course i have all my little discount tags. hehe!  and lastly, that little round thing with the beads and “tail?”  that’s a bracelet someone once made for me and the beads spelled out my name.  but, i thought it was a keychain. LOL!!  so there it’s stayed.  the “o” bead broke off years ago…(i think i’ve had it for over 10 years!)…and all the other beads are worn…but oh well.  it helps me find my keys and pull them out when they’re in the bottom of my purse!  all this stuff is neatly clipped onto the freebee dog keychain Maizy won this summer at one of her training classes. (she did the most “puppy push-ups.” LOL!) (that’s following the commands “sit” and “down” repeatedly FYI.)

so there ya have it.  yes, im a practical nerd and im proud of it =)  LOL.  altho, i suddenly realize how many “freebees” i own.  i promise, im notta free-sample-hunter-clip-every-coupon freak!!! hehe!!  i just happened to get these things i suppose, and felt the need to use them. =)

so now, i MUST torture someone else…you’re sweating, arent you? ROTFL!  i realize its almost christmas, too, so just get to this one whenever you have time!  of course, they’re always optional anyhoo =D

i have also decided to tag a few men.  i mean, have you ever seen some men’s wallets?  packed full of crazy stuff!!!  no wonder they have back problems! LOL!  of course, this doesnt mean show us your credit cards or driver’s licenses.  you can even just list the contents and show us a photo of the wallet :D   do it however you want to protect your identity! hehe!

  • amy – somehow you just dont seem like the mommy-sized purse type. am i right? :)
  • speedcat hollydale – cant wait to see what photos get edited this time…hehehe!
  • rolando – i’m wondering if your wallet matches your Avalanche? LOL!
  • christine – it would be fun to learn more about you! =)

my MIL sent this to me this week. i laughed SO HARD!

it reminded me of an inside joke a friend and i always shared.  the line we always said was, “notice they always look?”

you know, when we blow our nose—dont most people check out the goods in the kleenex afterward? LOL!  its just one of those funny “everybody does it but we still have to make fun of it and laugh” kindsa things. ROTFL!

now dont be posting me any comments that tells me you’re all spiffy and proper and you never look at your boogers! HAHA!

anyhoo, i hope you gotta good chuckle!!!  happy simple sunday!
